According to a press release received from the rally organizers:

Salem, calling for a revolution for change, will join with activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, an event to raise awareness and end the violence against women and girls around the world.

One Billion Rising is an energy, a platform, a global movement, a catalyst, a worldwide decision to end violence against women. It is a demand for justice, a paradigm shift, an invitation, a gathering of the ready. It is a united front raising awareness, standing together and supporting our community to make a difference.

World-wide risings will focus on highlighting, creating and envisioning new, brave and radical artistic initiatives to bring in the new revolutionary world of equality, dignity and freedom for all women and girls.

In Salem, the event will include:

- Speakers including Jayne Downing from the Center for Hope & Safety and Willamette Univ. law professor Warren Binford,
- An interactive dance led by Tippy Toe Dance Studio,
- A group sing-a-long (pending),
- Music by Rich McCloud,
- Plus an interactive art project, a food truck and more.

We will utilize creative energy to bring about awareness for change while promoting community togetherness.

Join us on Tuesday, February 14 and be part of the revolution.

NOTE: Tippy Toes Dance Studio is offering a free class from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 and 11 to learn the official “Break the Chain” dance. The class is open to everyone who wants to participate.

About One Billion Rising

The campaign, launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls. Now, yearly, on February 14, people across the world come together to express their outrage, strike, dance, and rise in defiance of the injustices women suffer, demanding an end at last to violence against women. Visit www.onebillionrising.org to learn more. One Billion Rising - Salem is organized by The Moxie Initiative, a 501(c)(3) community-engaging nonprofit organization.
